    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy departed Darwin for Alice Springs to undertake an official visit. In the morning His Honour and Mrs Hardy visited Braitling Pre School where they met with students, teachers and parents.

    In the afternoon, at a ceremony at The Residency, His Honour invested two Territorians who received appointment and awards in the Australia Day Honours and Awards list, January 2017. The Recipients were Ms Constance Spencer AM and Mr Keith Hewitt ESM.

    In the evening His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted an official dinner. Guests were:

    In the afternoon, His Honour attended and presented at the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services Honours and Awards Ceremony.  His Honour awarded three police officers with the Northern Territory Police Service medal.

    Later, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended a commemorative service for the 75th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin Day, held at the Darwin Cenotaph.

    In the early afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended a reception and luncheon, held at Parliament House to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin.

    Later in the afternoon, His Honour was honoured to be invested by His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia with his appointment as Officer in the Order of Australia, in the Australia Day Honours List 2017.

    ​Today His Honour attended a book launch for The Territory Remembers commemorative coffee table book. The book commemorates the Bombing of Darwin with a selection of photographs depicting the brave Australians who defended the boarders of Northern Australia during the Second World War.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted a reception for a book launch of The Empire Strikes South, Japan's air war against Northern Australia 1942-45 written by Dr Tom Lewis OAM. This book is accompanied by beautiful illustrations by Michael Claringbould, Illustrator.

    Both books were released to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended The Territory Remembers 75th Anniverary Last Post Ceremony, held at the Darwin Military Museum Precinct.

    The Last Post Ceremony is held at the war Memorial in Canberra every day at 4.55 pm to commemorate a different event or occasion. The Last Post Ceremony held today was to pay tribute to the lives lost during the Bombing of Darwin.

    His Honour was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition for the service and support given to the people of the Northern Territory over the past 40 years.

    In the morning, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the 2017 Australia Day Flag Raising, Citizenship and Award Ceremony, held at the Darwin Convention Centre. His Honour presented the Student Citizen Certificates and Medallions.

    In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the Australia Day Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony, held at the Palmerston Recreation Centre. His Honour presented the Local Government Community Awards for Community Event, Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards.

    Today, His Honour and Mrs Hardy had the privilege of witnessing one hundred and fifteen candidates become Australian citizens.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended OzFusion 2017, a celebration of multicultural performances, held at the Portuguese and Timorese Social Club.​

    ​His Honour presided at a meeting of the Executive Council.

    In the morning, His Honour received the Honourable Michael Grant, Chief Justice of the Northern Territory and Justice Stephen Southwood. Chief Justice Grant took the Oath of Office as First Dormant Commission Holder before Justice Southwood. The first Dormant Commision enables the holder to act as the Administrator when required.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the Darwin High School annual presentation and prize giving night, held at the Darwin Entertainment Centre.

    In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy had the pleasure of attending the Darwin Symphony Orchestra performance of Master Sereis 4: Babe in Concert, held at the Darwin Convention Centre. The live performance by the orchestra, timed to the movie Babe, playing on a big screen, was enjoyed by all ages.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the HPA Incorporated Christmas Party, held at the TIO Stadium. His Honour presented the 5, 10 and 25 Years of Service Awards.​

    In the morning, His Honour and Mrs Hardy were invited to visit Acacia Hills Farm. They were escorted by Ms Martina Matzner, General Manager to view mango picking and the packing sheds to watch the grading processes.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy enjoyed a performance by Darwin Chorale of Chorale in Cabaret: A Jazzy Broadway Christmas, held at the Darwin Entertainment Centre.​

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the Somerville Community Services Christmas Carols, held at Parliament House. The Sing Song Sign, Somerville and Vos Crox Choirs performances added to the enjoyment of the evening, which was hosted by the Honourable Kezia Purick MLA, Speaker of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly.​

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the Carols by Candlelight, held at the Amphitheatre. As Patron of the Christmas in Darwin Association, His Honour also gave a speech during the evening.

    Official travel to Brisbane from 16 to 19 November 2016

    The Administrator and Mrs Hardy travelled to Brisbane to attend the official dinner in Honour of the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty The Queen. The three day program was hosted by His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland and Mrs Kaye de Jersey.

    ​His Honour attended a meeting at Government House Queensland with the Governors of the Australian States and the Commonwealth of Australia​.

    Mrs Hardy attended a tour of the Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art hosted by Mrs de Jersey.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy also had the pleasure of visiting the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the opening of the Salvage and Salvation: The Fujita Salvage Story display, held at the Darwin Memorial Unting Church. Ten information panels tell the story behind a family-owned Japanese company contracted in the 1950s to clear the ships wrecked in Darwin Harbour during World War II.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended and unveiled a plaque at the Official Opening of the new Palmerston Christian School Hall and Classrooms.

    In the evening His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended, addressed and participated in the Carers Australia NT Group Recognition Project presentation ceremony, held at the Darwin Sailing Club. The Certificate III in Individual Support was presented to 16 carers who graduated in the Labour Market Training Program developed to assist carers to gain a qualification that will prepare them for employment or to advance them in their current employment. This is the first of its kind in Australia that has been delivered in Darwin.​

His Honour signed the Authorisation to Administer Oaths and Affirmations for the Members of the new Parliament and gave a speech outlining the agenda of the Northern Territory Government.

    Official travel to Alice Springs from 12 to 16 October 2016

    The Administrator and Mrs Hardy travelled to Alice Springs to present medals to participants of the Alice Springs Masters Games and attend the Closing Ceremony. The Alice Springs Masters Games occurs every twp years and this year the games celebrated their 30th anniversary. Called the friendly games, there are 32 sports available for competitors, drawing large crowds of participants and spectators.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy also had the opportunity while in Alice Springs to be escorted on a comprehensive Police tour, visiting the Domestice Violence Cross Border Team, the Mounted Police Unit, the Fire Station and Forensic Dog Operation. Other visits included the Central Fruit and Vegetables Wholesalers and the Arid Zone Research Institute.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy had the pleasure of attending a Girl Guide meeting where His Honour presented Mrs Sue Ride with the 50 Year Long Service Award and Mrs Hardy, as Patron, presented Mrs Wendy Mann the 35 Year Long Service Award and Mrs Fleur Mundy the 25 Year Long Service Award.​

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the 6th Austin Asche Oration in Law and Governance. The topic was presented by The Honourable Marilyn Warren, Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Victoria, on Young people in detention: impacts, progress and alternatives.​

    Mrs Hardy as patron of Girl Guides NT Inc attended the inaugural Let's Celebrate Girl Guides at the Darwin District newly renovated Monkani Guide Hall. There were presentations of awards and certificates of appreciation and Mrs Hardy cut the official ribbon to open the new facilities.

    Mrs Miller and Mr Miller attended the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Masters Games, held at the Anzac Oval in Alice Springs. Following the opening they attended a reception hosted by The Honouarable Michael Gunner MLA, Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, at the oval.

    In the evening His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended a dinner hosted by National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, held at the Darwin​ Surf Life Saving Club. The dinner was to also mark the global verification of the AusMat and National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre as Australia's designated Emergency Medical Response.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy invited the public to explore Government House and its grounds and gardens during Open Day.

    This was a wonderful opportunity for Territorians and tourists to find out about the history of the oldest European-style house in the Northern Territory and its tropical gardens, and the role of the Administrator. Over 1,200 people visited Government Hosue, where they could also indulge in a Devonshire tea from the National Trust, enjoy a sausage sizzle from Scouts Australia Northern Territory Branch, or listen to live music performed by the Australian Army Band Darwin.​

    United States Marines​ as part of Exercise KAKADU visited Government House and were taken on a tour by Mr Scott Samson, Official Secretary to the Administrator of the Northern Territory.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the March on the Katherine Terrace, where His Honour took the general salute along with Her Worship the Mayor of Katherine Mrs Fay Miller and Wing Commander Andrew Tatnell. They then walked to the Katherine Cenotaph where His Honour gave the official speech and laid a book during the Main Service.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy departed for official travel to Alice Springs. Upon arrival, His Honour and Mrs Hardy visited Alice Springs Hospital, where they were met by Dr Sam Goodwin, Acting Executive Director of Medical and Clinical Services, who provided a briefing on the Telehealth system. This was followed by a luncheon hosted by His Honour and Mrs Hardy and attended by Mrs Patricia Miller, Deputy of the Administrator of the Northern Territory, and Mr David Miller.

    In the afternoon, His Honour, as a Knight of Grace in the most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and Deputy Prior of St John Ambulance Australia NT, and Mrs Hardy, as Patron of St John Ambulance NT, visited the Alice Springs branch of St John Ambulance. They were met by Ms Julie Wickham, Acting Area Manager, and introduced to staff.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the Northern Territory Sports Awards hosted at the Alice Springs Convention Centre. His Honour presented the Steve Abala Sporting Role Model Administrator's Medal for 2016 to Mr Ronald Voukolos, who for many years has represented the Northern Territory and Australia in Tenpin Bowling. His Honour spoke of the history of the Administrator’s Medal and its establishment by former Administrator Ted Egan in 2006.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended a viewing of the Winsome Jobling: the nature of paper exhibition held at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.

    Mrs Patricia Miller, Deputy of the Administrator​, attended two events in Alice Springs today. The first held at the Alice Springs​ Town Council to witness the 2016 Harmony Day Citizenship Ceremony. Later in the morning Mrs Miller unveiled a commemorative sign for Goolam Rasool Nazar at his grave site. Goolam Nazar was one of many Afghan nationals who settled in Central Australia in the nineteeth century.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy concluded their three day official visit to Alice Springs, visiting the North West Mobile Force Centre Squadron Base. His Honour holds the permanent appointment as Representative Colonel of the North West Mobile Force.

    In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy visited the WWII Aerodrome site where they were met by Mr Dave Batic, General Manager, Northern Territory Airports.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled back to Darwin and upon arrival, attended the 2015/2016 TIO NTFL Seatbelts Save Lives Grand Final at the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre.

    ​His Honour delivered the opening address at the 32nd Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association and Annual Industry Conference at the Alice Springs Convention Centre. More than 450 attendees travelled to Alice Springs for the event which centred on the theme of The Business of Balance. His Honour shared some stories of his experiences of business within the aviation industry, and spoke of the history of Alice Springs as a centre of Australia’s pastoral industry and about those who contributed to its success during the early years.

    The program began with His Honour visiting Bradshaw Primary School where he met with Mr Paul Vanholsteyn, Principal, staff and students and toured some of the classrooms and grounds. Mrs Hardy attended the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association and Northern Stock Water Ladies Luncheon.

    In the afternoon, His Honour invested local resident Mr John Gavan Breen AO at a ceremony at the Residency, who was honoured with an Order of Australia in the General Division in the 2016 Australia Day Honours List.

    In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended a luncheon and tour with the Captain and Senior Officers of the cruise ship Celebrity Solstice. This is one of 13 cruise ships coming to Darwin during March, bringing approximately 20,000 passengers.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the Brown's Mart Theatre 2016 Season Launch Event at Brown’s Mart Theatre.

    Throughout the day, students from Dripstone Middle School, Bakewell Primary School and Rosebery Middle School toured Government House.

    ​In the morning, His Honour and Mrs Hardy received Dr Nicholas Coatsworth, Executive Director, National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, wife Dr Rebecca Pearson, and Master Jonathan Coatsworth.

    Later, His Honour and Mrs Hardy received Mr Kevin Davis AM, Chair, Darwin Chorale Inc and newly appointed Music Director Mr Michael Loughlin.

    In the afternoon, Year 7 students from Nightcliff Middle School enjoyed the opportunity to tour Government House and ask the Administrator some questions.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy opened up Government House to a number of schools this week, as part of the activities organised to recognise Commonwealth Day.

    Starting with students from Bakewell Primary School, approximately 200 students from eight different primary and middle Darwin schools toured Government House across the week, learning about its history and the role of the Administrator.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended a memorial service in honour of the late Mr Alan Bromwich OBE RFD KStJ at Royal Darwin Hospital. Mr Bromwich was a senior surgeon at Royal Darwin Hospital and Council Member of the Order of St John. He led the surgical response to Cyclone Tracy in 1974.

    ​In the early morning, His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended a memorial service to commemorate the 74th Anniversary of the Sinking of the USS Peary during the Bombing of Darwin on the 19 February 1942. His Honour laid a wreath in honour of the 88 US sailors who were killed.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the Bombing of Darwin commemorative service at the Darwin Cenotaph. His Honour provided a reflection on the events of 74 years ago, and spoke of the physical impact on Darwin and the Territory and the work that was done to rebuild and establish a modern tropical city of the 21st century.

    In the afternoon, His Honour officially opened Goyder Park, which was established to recognise the work completed by George Woodroffe Goyder, the South Australian Surveyor-General who was responsible for surveying Darwin and the surrounding area. Goyder Park is located at the site of Goyder’s Camp, where the team of approximately 138 men based themselves during the earliest days of Darwin’s settlement.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted a reception in recognition of the NT Human Rights Awards, which are taking place in Darwin on Thursday 10 December. ‘The Fitzgeralds’, named in honour of Tony Fitzgerald, NT Human Rights Commissioner (2002 – 2009) recognise the essential work undertaken by those in the Northern Territory who encourage and advocate for human rights.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the Freedom of Entry to the City of Darwin Parade which marked the 50th anniversary of the 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (5RAR).     In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted an afternoon tea for the Australia Day Council to congratulate the 2016 NT Australian of the Year Finalists. His Honour spoke of the breadth of talent displayed by the finalists across a broad range of areas, and of the actions which they have all displayed to help the lives of others.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted a reception for the members of the 7th Commonwealth Youth Parliament. His Honour provided a brief history of Government House, and spoke of the role that it has played in the foundation of the Northern Territory and its constitutional development from the late 1800s to the present day.

    In the afternoon, His Honour delivered the Speech from the Throne to open the 7th Commonwealth Youth Parliament at Parliament House. The Youth Parliament is an annual core programme of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, which sees the participation of over 50 young people from across the Commonwealth.

    ​In the morning, His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled to Alice Springs, where they spent the afternoon visiting staff and children at the Riding for the Disabled School. Mr John Stirk, National Chairperson and Ms Karen Eva-Stirk, Centre Manager, provided a tour of the facilities and introduced His Honour and Mrs Hardy to some of the hard-working horses. This was followed by a tour of Alice Springs Solar Energy Project by Mr Greg Picken.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled back to Darwin.

    ​In the morning, His Honour spoke at Mutitjulu community, as part of the commemorative speeches marking the 30th anniversary of the handback of Uluṟu and Kata Tjuṯa to traditional owners.

    His Honour spoke of his experiences as a young pilot in the 1970s flying tourists to see the sandstone monolith. He also spoke of the importance of the joint management of the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuta National Park by Nguraritja and Parks Australia, which allows tourists to continue to visit this sacred site, in a respectful manner.

    “Anangu bring with them thousands of years of cultural and ecological knowledge of their land, and this feeds directly into ecological research and sustainable landscape management of the park.

    “They share the stories, ceremony and song of their ancestors, so that the culture stays alive for the next generations,” His Honour said.

    ​In the morning, His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled to Undoolya Cattle Station, the oldest working cattle station in the Northern Territory, which has been operating since the 1870s. They met Mrs Nicole Hayes and her husband Mr Ben Hayes – a 6th generation direct descendent of the original owner, William Hayes.

    In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy visited the Central Australian Aviation Museum at Araluen Cultural Precinct. This was followed by a tour of Earth Sanctuary, conducted by Mr Dan Falzon, owner of the education and eco-tourism centre.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy spent the morning visiting the Alice Springs School of Air, where they were met by Ms Mel Phillips, Principal, for a tour and briefing of activities. This was followed by a tour of Alice Springs Hospital by Dr Samuel Goodwin, Acting General Manager.

    In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy met Mr Philip Allnutt, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Australian Aboriginal Alcohol Programmes Unit (CAAAPU), where they were shown the facilities and told about the aims of the programme.

    In the evening, His Honour invested two Northern Territory residents of Queen’s Birthday honours under the Australian system of honours and awards. Senior Sergeant Eaton APM for dedication to the Northern Territory’s police force, and Mrs Olga Radke OAM, for her work in the community of Alice Springs.

    Mrs Marie Hardy, as Patron of Northern Territory Breast Cancer Voice, hosted a luncheon for women who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. This is a longstanding tradition which began in 2000 when Mrs Lesley Conn, wife of then Administrator Neil Conn, hosted a luncheon at Government House.

    Mrs Hardy spoke of the important initiatives resulting from years of advocacy work by Northern Territory Breast Cancer Voice, and the social networks that have provided many opportunities for social and emotional support.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted a luncheon for Barkly Regional Council Elected Members and Executive Staff Members. In the afternoon, Mrs Hardy presented local Girl Guides with awards at the Tennant Creek Showgrounds, before departing for Alice Springs. ​

    ​Investitures take place twice a year following the announcement of the Australia Day and Queen’s Birthday Honours. His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled to Arlparra in Utopia, where His Honour posthumously awarded a Bravery Medal to Mr Kumuntjay Jones as part of the August 2014 Australian Bravery Decorations. The award was accepted by Mr Fred Jones and the ceremony was conducted at the Arlparra Police Station in front of family and community members.

    After touring the Urapuntja Health Service Aborignal Corporation, His Honour and Mrs Hardy departed Arlparra and travelled to Tennant Creek.

    In the evening, His Honour invested Mr Elliot McAdam AM and Mr Philip Merry ESM at the Barkly Regional Council Office of their Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Mr Kim won a six week trip to the Northern Terrory, where he spent four weeks at Navitas English school based at Charles Darwin University. Other students from the class also attended.

    In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy received Mr Paul Maddison, High Commissioner of Canada, accompanied by Mrs Fay Maddison, on his first official visit to Darwin.

    In the evening, His Honour attended the 5th Austin Asche Oration in Law and Governance by Professor Gillian Triggs, President, Australian Human Rights Commission, at Parliament House. Mrs Hardy attended the opening reception of the photographic exhibition Canada's Arctic: Vibrant and Thriving, at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended a memorial service to commemorate the presence of the 1st Canadian Special Wireless Group, in Darwin from 18 April to 24 October 1945, at the Darwin Cenotaph.

    In the evening, His Honour awarded over 50 recipients with their bronze, silver or gold Duke of Edinburgh Award at a ceremony at Government House. His Honour congratulated the young people on their decision to make an important contribution to their own future, and to those around them.

    This was a wonderful opportunity for Territorians and tourists to find out about the history of the oldest European-style house in the Northern Territory and its tropical gardens, and the role of the Administrator. Close to 2,000 people visited Government House, where they could also indulge in a Devonshire tea from the National Trust, enjoy a sausage sizzle from Scouts Australia Northern Territory Branch, or listen to live music performed by the Australian Army Band Darwin.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted a reception for the presentation of the 2015 Churchill Fellowships. This marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, following the death of Sir Winston Churchill on the 24th January 1965.     ​On Day 3 of their official visit to the Tiwi Islands, His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled to Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island, where they visited Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School, Xavier Catholic College Wurrumiyanga, Julanimawu Health Centre and Wurrumiyanga Police Station. They then met with Red Cross staff, and had lunch with members of the Tiwi Land Council. Before departing for Darwin in the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy visited Patakijiyali Museum, where they received a tour from Sister Anne Gardiner, and finally, Tiwi Design Art Centre, where they met with local artists who were preparing for the upcoming Aboriginal Art Fair in Darwin.

    "It was a great pleasure for Marie and me to visit the Tiwi Islands recently on my first official visit as Administrator of the Northern Territory" His Honour said.

    "There is no doubt that there are a lot of people who share a great passion and pride for the work that they do. And this is clearly paying off, with strong school attendance rates, improving health outcomes and tourists returning home with positive stories of their time on the islands."

    ​On Day 2 of their official visit to the Tiwi Islands, His Honour and Mrs Hardy continued their tour of Melville Island, visiting Yapilika Forestry Centre and the tropical Acacia plantations. They then met teaching staff and students at Milikapiti School, and staff at Melville Island Lodge. His Honour and Mrs Hardy spent the afternoon at Jilimara Arts Centre and Museum, before travelling to Pickertaramoor, where they toured Tiwi College.

They then travelled to Port Melville, where they toured the new development.     Exercise Talisman Sabre is a biennial combined Australian and United States training activity, designed to train the military forces in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations. This is the sixth time the Exercise has been conducted and involves up to 30,000 Australian and US defence personnel. It runs simultaneously at Fog Bay, south west of Darwin, and within the Shoalwater Bay Training Area, near Rockhampton in Central Queensland.

His Honour and Mrs Hardy had the pleasure of meeting staff and finding out about the businesses and employment services.

    Later that morning, His Honour and Mrs Hardy received outgoing Officer in Charge, Forward Coordination Element, United States Marine Corps, Colonel Matthew Puglisi, and incoming Officer in Charge, Colonel Daniel Masur, accompanied by Colonel Brian Bailey CSC, Chief of Staff, Deputy Commander, Northern Command.

    In the evening, they attended the Professorial Lecture by Professor Wayne Cristaudo titled Global Instabilities: 101 years after the commencement of World War I at Northern Territory Library.

    This was followed by a dinner at Government House for Defence Force Senior Personnel, hosted by His Honour and Mrs Hardy.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy spent the second day of their visit to Nhulunbuy attending the Gove Surf Lifesaving Club, and the Nhulunbuy Boat Club, where they were met by Ms Angela MacMillan, Chief Executive Officer, Nhulunbuy Corporation. His Honour and Mrs Hardy returned to Darwin in the afternoon.​

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled to Nhulunbuy as part of an official tour.  In the morning, they visited the Nhulunbuy District Hospital, where they were met by Ms Lisa Pullen, General Manager. This was followed by a tour of St John Ambulance offices. In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy transferred to North-West Mobile Force headquarters, and were shown the facilities by Corporal Amy Green.

    In the evening, His Honour and Mrs Hardy had the pleasure of attending the Darwin Symphony Orchestra’s performance at the Garma site. As Patron of Darwin Symphony Orchestra, His Honour is a keen supporter of the creative approach which the orchestra takes to bringing music to all people across the Northern Territory.​

    His Honour had the pleasure of presenting the Administrator’s Medal for Outstanding Service to Surf Life Saving in the Northern Territory to Mr Alan Cross.

    Administrator Medals recognise exceptional achievements in the fields of music, sport, health, education, volunteering and community policing.

    His Honour also spoke of the invaluable community service provided to Territorians by members of Surf Life Saving Northern Territory.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted a reception to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Royal Life Saving Society (Australia) Northern Territory Branch.

    His Honour spoke of the Territory’s challenging combination of a natural environment that contains many sources of water, and a high number of private and public pools. He highlighted the wide range of activities undertaken by Royal Life Saving NT to bring down the number of deaths by drowning in the Territory.

    ​His Honour invested Mr Timothy Nadjowh AM at a ceremony in Gunbalanya School, in front of Mr Nadjowh’s family and community. Mr Nadjowh was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division for significant service to the Indigenous communities of West Arnhem Land as a leader and elder, and to the visual arts.

    His Honour was quoted on ABC News website as saying:

    Mr Nadjowh's courage "to do his own thing, his determination to get it done" and his altruism for his people and others, made him a perfect recipient.

    "All the good things you can think of, he's guilty of," His Honour said. "And he absolutely deserves it. To see the look on his face. He was so proud. And it was an honour to actually hand it over to him."

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled to Jabiru for the first of their two day visit to Jabiru and Gunbalanya. In the afternoon, they toured the Ranger Uranium Mine.

    Travelling to different parts of the Northern Territory forms an important part of the Administrator’s role. It is an opportunity for His Honour to visit community organisations and public services, and meet a wide range of people to find out about the fabulous work that is done by Territorians throughout the year.

    In the afternoon, His Honour launched the The Not So “Silent Night”: Cyclone Tracy Stories from Doctors, Nurses and Health Workers: Darwin, December 1974 by Dr Susan Sayers. His Honour spoke of the impact that the cyclone had on his work as a radiographer at the old Darwin Hospital, and the different ways in which his colleagues managed the high number of injured residents and casualties in the hours and days that followed Tracy.

    ​His Honour delivered the 2015 Anzac Day Address at the 100th Anniversary Anzac Day Dawn Service at the Darwin Cenotaph. The service was attended by 10,000 people and was followed by the Anzac Day March through Darwin’s CBD.

    His Honour spoke of the landing at Gallipoli:

    “We picture the moment ‒ exactly 100 years ago ‒ when British, French, Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on the beaches of Gallipoli to take part in our first major military action of the First World War. The silence, the stillness, the chill of the morning’s early hours as the men sat, tightly packed, in small boats. The sea mist that enveloped them. The tug of emotion, from nervousness, through to excitement, and then fear, as they waited for the sound of the gunfire which would unveil their stealthy arrival.”

    His Honour read some emotional extracts from letters from soldiers and a nurse that were sent to family members during World War I, and spoke of the importance in finding out about the experiences of those who have served our country:

    “I encourage you to gather the stories of our past and present servicemen and women. I encourage you to go online, to go into the library, to go and speak to someone you know who has played a part in Australia’s wartime history.”

    In the morning, His Honour presided at a meeting of the Executive Council.​

    Laterm more students visited Government House as part of the 'Celebrating our Commonwealth' program organised by the Department of the Legislative Assembly. Today, year four students from Driver Primary School visited, followed by two classes of years five and six students from Manunda Terrace Primary School.

    Each year Government House opens its doors for primary and secondary school students as part of the Department of the Legislative Assembly’s ‘Celebrating our Commonwealth’ program.  Students are taken on a tour of Government House and are given the opportunity to meet His Honour and Mrs Hardy. Year Seven students from Nightcliff Middle School attended today.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy also received the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Mr John Coleman and newly appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dr Rachel Bacon, Department of the Chief Minister.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy attended the International Women's Day Walk in the morning. The walkers met and finished at Parliament House, following a route around Darwin's city centre.

    In the afternoon, His Honour and Mrs Hardy watched the TIO NTFL Women's Grand Final at TIO Stadium.

    ​His Honour and Mrs Hardy spent the second day of their official visit to Alice Springs visiting Acacia Hill School, Araluen Cultural Precinct, the Central Australian Aviation Museum and Alice Springs Desert Park.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy travelled to Alice Springs for their first official visit. The first day of their two-day itinerary included a visit to the Alice Springs Town Council in the morning, followed by a tour of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and its Tourist Facility in the afternoon.

    His Honour then hosted an official welcome reception in the evening for the Alice Springs Community at the Alice Springs Convention Centre.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy hosted a morning tea for participants of The Borella Ride and family. His Honour was presented with a framed gift detailing Albert Borella's life and his journey from Tennant Creek to Darwin, including a replica of the Victoria Cross and the war medals which Albert Borella received for his service during World War I.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy took part in the final leg of The Borella Ride, organised as part of the Northern Territory's ANZAC Centenary Program.

    Albert Borella is one of only 100 Australians, and the only Northern Territorian, to receive the Victoria Cross. He travelled from Tennant Creek to Darwin in 1915 to enlist in World War I. Family members retraced his 1,000 kilometre journey over 12 days which included walking, horse riding, hitching a ride on a horse drawn mail cart, and a train ride.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy participated in the train ride from Pine Creek to Adelaide River and attended a luncheon, before returning to Darwin to witness the arrival of The Borella Ride at Stokes Hill Wharf. His Honour and Mrs Hardy then attended a dinner in honour of The Borella Ride.

    His Honour and Mrs Hardy took part in commemorative services that were held to remember those who died and were wounded during the Bombing of Darwin on 19 February 1942.
    An early morning service took place at the memorial to the USS Peary in honour of the 88 US soldiers who were killed that fateful day. His Honour then spoke at the Darwin Cenotaph during the commemoration organised by Darwin City Council. This was attended by more than 3,000 people including dignitaries, veterans and school children.
    His Honour reflected upon the impact which the bombing had upon Darwin and its people, and spoke of the military sites of significance that still remain to this day in and around the city.

The Primary School Scholar medal was awarded to Harrison Talbot from Clyde Fenton Primary School, and the Middle School Scholar medal was awarded to Despina Sisois from Sanderson Middle School.

    The students showed impressive abilities in meeting the criteria of academic achievement, outstanding behaviour and outstanding citizenship and concern for others.
